I grew up with a lot of snow. I remember after my brothers shoveled the sidewalks the snow seemed like it was piled up higher than me. My brothers would help me build snow caves and huge snowmen. We use to put on my mom's slippers and run from the porch to slide down the sidewalk. If you did it right you could make it all the way to the car. Then when we got bigger we use to go down to the end of the block by Mrs. Broadwater's house and slide down her sidewalk. It had a hill. I borrowed some cross-country skis once and skied down the streets because they were snow packed. Sledding on the hill across the street at the college. In high school we would go sledding in the mountains and we would build a fire down at the bottom to cook hotdogs.
Now that I am older we take the family sledding at the local golf course (driving range). Snowshoeing in the mountains. Sometimes night skiing. However, the older I get my favorite activity is to sit on the couch and watch the snow fall outside.

I wish all of our grass was white. It got up to 72 degrees the other day. It's now cold enough to snow, but nothing. This weekend it's suppose to be in the 60's again. I haven't been skiing since my senior year in high school. Manny and I were just talking the other day that we need to take the kids up to Virginia and go skiing. I also love sitting inside and watching it snow, it's so peaceful.
I like snow for Christmas too. We went cross counrty skiing twice last week. But there's something to be said for being able to ride your bike or go on a walk for onChristmas. People in warmer climes will be make enough vitamin D because of more sun exposure. I guess everything has it good points.
We shovel snow. We shovel and shovel and shovel and shovel snow. Then we shovel some more. And if we are lucky, we can get out of our house enough to shovel more snow.
Note to selves: next time buy a house on the beach instead of in the mountains.
I remember my Dad hooking up the sled to our 6-Wheeler and going for rides behind it; then there was the winter Julie decided to take the Tempo out into the field and along the lane to see how far it could slide. We got it stuck a couple of times, but fortunately we were always able to get it unstuck. I'm with you, though, there's nothing as enjoyable as watching the snow fall or sitting next to a pleasant fire.
